Smoke, Fire and Water

Early this morning it became illegal in England to smoke in an enclosed public place or workplace. The rest of the UK has had this law for ages - at last we've caught up. Hooray!

As most of you will have heard, there have been some attempted terrorist attacks over the last couple of days. First some cars left in a central London street in the wee small hours (one of which got moved to a car pound by an unobservant tow-truck drive). They failed to explode. Then yesterday a silmilarly loaded vehicle was driven into the entrance doors of Glasgow Airport. (Sorry the next 2 pictures are so small, there are surprisingly few on Google).
The very heavy - and at times torrential - rain of the last week or so has caused severe flooding in several areas in the north of England.
Any bets on whether we'll have some drought orders this summer?

It's been a scary week in the UK. The new government has had a lot to deal with!

No doubt our incompetent water authorities will shortly declare it's been the 'wrong sort' of rain, so we must do all we can to conserve any water currently flooding the streets.
As for all the other nonsense, the minute you change one arrangement on the grounds something might happen, the terrorists have won, so all I can suggest is we hold our heads up high and NOT bow the knee to these cowards.

many prayers of safety for you all!

not sure how i feel about smoking bans. they are fighting to get one in my county and although i don't smoke, i hate the "big brotherness" of it. not to mention it hurts small business owners. i guess i just don't like the government telling me that i can or can't do something like that. it feels very much like it's taking away some of my freedoms.

I hope that things settle down over there! But can we have our rain back please? The west is dangerously dry; it's going to be a very long fire season.

Nothing like a baptism by fire for your new PM, eh?
