Goodbye Humph

A while back, I did a post about a British Institution, Humphrey Lyttelton, jazz trumpeter and comedy presenter.

At the age of 86, he had been the compere of the BBC Radio 4 comedy programme "I'm Sorry, I haven't A Clue" since its inception in 1972. He could make the filthiest double-entendres sound even dirtier because of his old age and his innocence of delivery.

Humph died yesterday following surgery on an aortic aneurism.

I thought he was immortal.

This is an extract from the radio show, with Humph asking the team to finish off George W. Bush quotes.

It's Official

My 14-month-old computer has to be remastered.

I spent ages on the phone this afternoon going through various disablements and deletions trying to get round the problem that's been assailing it, but eventually one of the checks showed that something-or-other #1-07 had failed. So it's back to the manufacturer to have all its memory erased. (Good thing I put most of it on alternate media last week, so not much will be lost except the family tree programme, and that still exists on this computer and a couple of discs and pen drives.) They will collect it from work on Tuesday morning.

Well, can I exist without it for all that time, and this one playing up regularly and taking forever to do stuff? I cannot. After the announcement of doom, I went out and - oh dear - bought another.

I'm dreading trying to get the internet connection set up. It means a lengthy phone call to India, and sadly, though I am extremely good at accents, they seems to put people with impenetrable ones on the phones. I actually went into the Orange shop today to try and get a disc to load it, but they don't get sent them any more. They put me through to someone I might have been able to understand if the line had been any good. No joy there either. I have another number to call, but I know it will be more of the same. Why no discs? Easy - they make more by forcing you to phone a helpline that costs several limbs.

I need some cheering up. How about some Vincent?

I just LOVE his hair in The War At Home.

So here I am, still without having sorted out my new computer, too tired when I got home after having a knock-down, drag-out fight (well, a strong argument) with my Learning Support Assistant. Really cleared the air. I don't think anyone who passed the room when we were in full flight could believe it when we walked into the staff meeting good friends and I gave her a lift home afterwards!

It was the end of a stressful day - well, week, really - because my class was performing in assembly, and we'd spent every lesson rehearsing our mini version of Oliver Twist. It was WONDERFUL!

In answer to various questions I saw as I read through all your wonderful comments:

Kris, I wasn't on strike, as the union striking is not the one I'm in. I had expected that the Head wouldn't want me in as I am a supply teacher, and paid by the day, but in fact all the regular supply staff were there and working away at things you don't always get the chance to do when you actually have to teach kids (god forbid).

JoJo, treat yourself to a cheap laptop, girl, sell your body if you have to. Or could you go to the library?

Beatlelady, was Bishop in that scene with Bobby in his dress blues? Sorry, I never even noticed, and as for seeing her watching his butt - I was too busy trying to catch a glimpse of it myself!

We seem to have a lot of the episodes from S1 and S3 that I haven't capped yet clustered together on TV, so I'm just going to close my eyes and pick a film or an episode at random.

Well, what do you know, it turned out to be Depths.

In case I Stray

If I get home early enough tomorrow I will try to fix my computer by phoneg the support line, so I may not get the chance to post.

So just in case, here's a large dose of hands and dress blues from what seems to be one of the favourite episodes among Vixens.

Don't Forget Jones

Lucky people, we had But Not Forgotten at lunchtime today...

...as well as Jones last night.

Sorry US Vixens, we seem to have a VERY happy glut of Bobby in the UK right now.

Spoilt Rotten

Well, folks, we are getting a veritable feast of Bobby at the moment - 10 episodes a week when the Channel 5 Season 5 episode is a Logan one, 11, when it's Goren and Eames.

I need more time - and a faster computer, like my new one working again :(

Anyway, I came home to Gemini tonight:
