Poppy and Pansy Go Large

Today my girlies went to their new home. We had a long journey, about an hour and a half in my car with the most infuriating satnav I've ever come across. Their new keepers want them to meet their companions at leisure before making a full introduction, so they set up a small enclosure inside the hen house. The house looks a bit ramshackle, but it's fully insulated and they will be much warmer than in my garden if there's another snowy winter.
Here are a couple of their fellow flock members who have escaped from the enclosure (and do so every day) to scratch about in the huge main garden.
They also have a couple of geese to contend with.
The owners are cat breeders. This is one of their Bengal queens.
They also breed Burmese, and there were kittens galore. These two were chasing one another in and out of the chicken enclosure.
Two of the very small adults (I can't believe how small an adult Burmese can be!) and a tiny kitten curled up and ready for bed.
This little darling attached itself to my shoulder. I was sorely tempted to smuggle it into my bag and take it home.
I miss my girls already, and I'm pretty sure they wanted me to stay with them. But tomorrow they will have the run of a huge space and the attentions of a charming cockerel, so I don't think they'll miss me for long.

Poor Squidgie

I'm a bit late posting today. Last night at dusk I found a young squirrel in my garden, lying flat out on the ground. I took him in, wrapped him up and put him in a cat basket to rest. I thought he would be dead this morning, but he wasn't. I transferred him to a bigger basket and put in some water and peanuts, but as he was resting his head where the door would shut, I left it open. Tonight I got home to find he'd made it outside, but hadn't gone more than a few inches before keeling over again.

I settled outside with the hens while they had their outing, and tried to drip some water into his mouth. Mostly I seemed to be flushing out fly eggs. Then I tried to contact a local wildlife rescue ambulance service, but they are out of commission, so I contacted St Tiggywinkle's for advice. (This is a renowned rescue service, named after Beatrix Potter's hedgehog character, but it is based too far away to reach me.) So I got the girls to go back home, and took Squidgie to the vet's. There he was to have the fly eggs removed from his coat and mouth (sorry people) and anything else the vet could think of to help him, but he phoned me a while ago and told me the poor little baby didn't make it.

He was a little fighter, but it was all just too much for him.

Way In

Don't want an exit.

The New Tenants

Apparently I have never capped this film, so I've taken the arrival yesterday of the "official" version rather than my iTunes copy to put that oversight right.
