Congratulations USA!

Like so many others I couldn't bring myself to believe that American voters would keep their cool and vote for Obama.

Well, they did, and the whole world must surely benefit from the election of such an inspirational and charismatic leader.

I just hope he can find solutions to the myriad of problems Bush will be leaving it to him to sort out.

Oh that we had someone comparable waiting for his/her 'time' in the UK, but sadly, we have the same old load of self-serving windbags on offer that we've always had. Tragically, I don't think we have anyone who could engage the population OR make a speech so moving or stirring as Obama's.

Congratulations to the American people and President-Elect Obama.

I enjoy the election of Mr Obama it's a good thing for the USA and a hope for the multiracial equality problem...
Sadly in France we have a long way before a event like this could happen we are the country of hypocrisism about this subject but i hope that my generation (I'm 21) could take exemple and change the situation!!
Bravo Mr President! And Good Luck because it's a difficult period for beeing elected!!

Yes, we kept our cool, as you say.

Now I think there really is a God. How could you not vote for "that one" (as McCain once referred to him)? Really now. He's a Ba-rock star! Hey, Abraham Lincoln was also an inexperienced Illinois senator.

And at least Barack Obama knows how to pronounce "nuclear."

Yes, it was a wonderful moment. I can say I am once again filled with hope for this country. The last eight years have been a horrible nightmare that seemed endless. Now we have a chance to make things right again.

It was also nice to see other countries reacting as enthusiastically as we were here in this country. This is truly a great moment in the history of my country and hopefully the world as a whole.

Although I'm a bit "washed out" from all the bourbon I consumed last night, I recall an evening filled with friends, laughter, applause, and even tears ... tears of joy, of course. People, I believe, will be comparing him to Abe Lincoln for some time. I just don't want what happened to Abe Lincoln to happen to our next president. More upside: our Senate and House (Congress) went even MORE Democrat (vs. Republican). Downside: Four anti-gay measures passed in various states, the most notorious being Proposition 8 in California. Sad, but the gay community has vowed to keep up the fight. It was one of the closest votes: very 50/50. I think the youth vote had much to do with nearly defeating it. Our younger voters, more today than ever, are highly educated. And they voted for a very intelligent man ... as intelligent as he is charasmatic.

Snarkangel, did you go to the rally last night???

I am furious over Prop 8 in California. Hopefully a lawsuit will be filed today.

For anyone who remembers the first couple of seasons of "24", we finally got our very own President Palmer. lol

THANK GOD! Maybe now things will start to improve in this country!!

Snark and JoJo, What exactly did Prop 8 do? I haven't been keeping up, sorry.

Prop 8 bans gay people getting married. There should be no lawsuit because it was the people that spoke not the legislature. The people of the California do not want gay marraige and they voted that way. However, I think people should be able to do what they want regarding marraige if they are all consenting adults. As far as the Presidency goes, I didn't vote for either front runner because I didn't trust either one of them.

It defines marriage as being between a man and a woman. It's total and complete bullshit. I am extremely disappointed in my former-home state. Damn those conservative counties.

thanks everyone who voted for him; and i mean that from the bottom of my heart.
you know, that man will influence the politics worldwide.

No rally for me, Jojo! I wanted to be in my nice, cozy neighborhood pub with my boyz-in-the-hood buddies. Stumbling distance from home, don't ya know. LOL. Going to the rally would have meant getting home even later, not being able to sit down, not being able to savor a cocktail (or more), and not being able to share a ciggie with my pals. Yes, Jazzy, I took a few puffs. Hee.

never mind, snark. i took more than just a few myself.
