This is the view east towards what I believe is a pub. You can also see some of the boats.
Below is a view of the canal to the west, showing how lush parts of inner London can be.
The paved path in both pictures is the old towpath, now used for walking and cycling.

How beautiful! What is the Grand Union Canal? Is it man made or a natural body of water? Does it branch off the Thames? Also, what are those triangular shaped things in the bottom photo?
This looks like a lovely place to take a stroll. Is it safe?
I think all canals are man-made, could even be the definition. It's in a very exclusive and high class area of London, and certainly in daylight it is very safe. I don't know what it links up to any more. As the name suggests, it used to link up a lot of canals in the days when goods were still regualrly transported on barges. They went down to the docks on the Thames, and across the country to other towns and cities. Most have been lost.
Oh, and the triangular things in the bottom photo are parts of the Snowdon Aviary in the zoo. It's named after Lord Snowdon, Princess Margaret's late (ex-)husband, who was also a photographer.
You are right about canals being man made; I hadn't even thought of that before. DUH!
