Why?

'Scuse me, 'scuse me, hairdressing person. Why do you do this big circle on Vincent's head like he had to make him look dorky in The Break Up? If his crown is low on his head, well, you are paid to take care of his coiffure, so TAKE CARE OF IT! I have a double crown - would you do my hair with two partings? No! You have one of the best jobs in the entire world, so do something to deserve it and stop messing with his hair in places he can't even see.

George Cansdale

Last night there was a programme on TV called 100 years of Wildlife Films. The earliest was from 1896, but others of the very early ones, from about 1909, with equipment that was barely portable being schlepped up rocky cliffs, and the cameraman going to great lengths to acclimatise creatures to the noise of a ratchety handle being turned, were interesting. In the 1930s, there was a huge split in the way wildlife was filmed, with American "personalities" who knew nothing about the animals shooting them dead on camera - lots of them, sometimes, including lions, just to get the scene right. Meanwhile, from Britain, a man called Cherry Kearton was already filming sympathetically and with the welfare of the animals in mind.

The programme included David Attenborough, of course, and Sir Peter Scott. Gerald Durrell was missing, but he wrote about the creatures rather than filming them. Armand and Michaela Dennis were there. Johnny Morris, who pretended to be a zookeeper at Bristol Zoo, and voiced the "thoughts" of the animals in Zoo Time, a children's show that was on for over 20 years, was shown being spat at by camels and laughing about it as he pleaded for the cameras to cut. Desmond Morris, thankfully, was missing. He always was an arrogant git, what with his book declaring that walking on two legs was done for the benefit of the male of the species, so he could hunt better, and the little woman just had to go along with it so he could mate with her more easily.

But there was no mention of the man I remember best, and who seems to have been largely forgotten by everyone. He was George Cansdale. He used to appear regularly on TV in the 1950s, though it was only when I googled him today that I found out he was the Superintendant of London Zoo. I remember him best for bringing bush babies into the studio. He also visited my school, my humble little school in a poor and grotty part of London, and had the ubiquitous little bug-eyed mammal with him then, too. I think hew also had some snakes.

He is not forgotten. There were over 15,000 hits on Google. I know many wouldn't turn out to be him, but his name is out there, immortal in cyberspace.

Beautiful, Troubled Bobby

Thinking back to the days of The War At Home, we knew it was soon going to be crunch time for Bobby and for the show. We all wanted to hug him so hard.

That's all changed now. Except for the hugging, of course.

Ask USA

I just used the Feedback button on the USA site to email them a request for our old theme tune back. I heaped praise on the show and them first, 'cos I want them to know how much we appreciate what they are doing.

It insists on having your state, and of course I don't have one, so I chose New York. I did tell them I lied, though. I suppose it would be better coming from people who actually watch the channel live, so all you US Vixens, please lend some support to the cause.

I could add hair, ears, neck, stubble, eyebrows, eyelashes, nose, mouth, chin, chest, arms, legs, butt. One day when I have a few spare weeks I might try to put his features into separate files so I can call them up more easily in response to requests or whims. Meanwhile I will have to suffer the onerous (ha!) task of searching through dozens of episodes to find suitable pictures to illustrate my themes.
What a hardship...

I've seen it!

Thanks to the incredible Eliza, I have downloaded Amends and watched it. Wow. Strong stuff. Trust him to get it right in the face of all opposition. I didn't see those nasty cops who insulted him apologise.

Up Close and Perfect

I'm sorry I have very little time tonight, so a few blurred pictures have crept into my hurried slideshow. (You can't actually see on Photobucket 'cos you choose from tiny thumbnails). I have a friend coming soon, and I'm also waiting to see if the Season 7 episode from Eliza has downloaded in a way that I can actually play. I have VERY high hopes.

Semi-Detached

Pics To Enjoy requested pictures from Semi-Detached, and I cannot refuse a request. Trouble was, I hadn't screencapped it yet, so that has been this evening's project. I had to rush a bit, and as my own DVDs don't freeze-frame as well as the shop-bought versions (if only we had them yet for Season 4) some of them are a bit blurred. But they ARE Bobby, so let's grin and bear it. (I'd rather grin and bare it with Vincent, but that's another story).

I love the contrast in this episode between stubbly Bobby and cleanshaven Bobby, but I think they should have waited till AFTER he met Nelda for him to shave and scrub up.

Bobby from two angles at once was one of those chance happenings.
