Gerkin' Around

I still think he ought to release "18 Wheels of Christmas" as a Christmas record.

Why do I do these things to myself?

Well, here I am with the new computer. I've managed to install McAfee, and getting online only took a few attempts and a phonecall to my provider (they are always brilliant, luckily). Getting used to the keys and Windows 7 will take a bit longer. Maybe a year or two.

I sent myself an email with the shortcuts to my favourite blogs and sites, so I can get them back quite easily. Eventually - there's a very long list!

I can't remember how to get on to my work email, which could be a problem. Meanwhile it's getting close to bedtime, but do I have the strength to log off and leave the rest till tomorrow?

Time to say Goodbye

Don't worry. Not to me, or Vincent.

To the pink Sony computer.

Marks and Spencer have still not dealt with my complaint, which now includes just about every level of the so-called customer service provision within the company.

But one lone person has said he will refund the money I paid for the computer in July 2009. Tomorrow it goes back to the store forever.

I have saved everything I can find on to my spare hard drive. I have bought a new computer. The retailer has put a bunch of stuff on to the new one for me.

I ended up with another HP. They are a good company with good customer support, and even though PCWorld, where I've bought the new one, is about to be "exposed" on a TV programme Watchdog (in five minutes, in fact) I have never had a problem with my local store, and have purchased an extended service pack to go with the new machine.

The good things about it are more than I can tell you ('cos most of them went right over my head!) but it does have 6.5 hours battery life, and unlike the Sony can use AnyDVD so I can play all my foreign DVDs on it.

Thank you all for your advice on makes. A Dell was the winner amongst you, but it would have taken too long to get one ordered. Fujitsu were not available. I won't touch Toshiba (once bitten...) but your advice made me feel more secure, somehow.

All I have to do now is download all my programmes and upload all my pictures and documents.

Shit!

Unexpectedly Sexy

As only Vincent could be in this look.

Posthumous Python

The Posthumous Collection was on this evening on the newly revamped Hallmark CHannel, now known as Universal, and with a giant, heavy watermark in the top left-hand corner even worse than the old one.

Anyway, I noticed something that, for some incomprehensible reason, has never jumped out at me before. How did that happen?

Any Suggestions?

My computer woes are drawing towards their end - but not with the resolution I wished for.

After the couriers failed to collect my computer last Wednesday, but claiming they had called and got no answer, I booked a new appointment for today, from midday.

When I got to my student's house, his mother told me they'd actually called at her house on Thursday. They admitted that the day before they'd called at the house opposite! She told them the appointment had been rebooked for today.

I took her son on his regular visit to a special school for the morning, and she took her new dog for a walk early specifically to be home in time for the collection. She arrived home at least 15 minutes before time, only to find they'd already called for real and actully left a card. She phoned me at school and gave me the card number and the phone number, and I tried to call them. At the other end, there was no recorded choice or my problem - which was that I wated them to call back while they were still in the area. No way to speak to a human being at all.

Back at home, I called the tech line and...

...THERE WAS NO ANSWER!

Finally I admitted defeat and called the branch where I bought the machine. A man there took all the details and listened to the tale of woe. He went off to make some enquiries, and called me back to suggest that I return the computer and get a refund, as he could not get a guarantee from the courier firm that they could even stick to a promised am/pm appointment. As soon as I can find some time, that's what I'll do. Bu I want to find a replacement first, and get as much stuff copied over as possible.

So, any supggestions as to a reliable laptop with good storage capacity? I'll never buy another Toshiba, and I've heard bad things about Acer, but apart from Samsung and HP (not toention this Sony) I don't know anything about any makes and their qualities, so any input from you, my kind readers and friends, would be most welcome. If I thought a Macbook would do all the things I want it to I'd be tempted to go for one of those, but it just feels too alien to me.

Special for Post 2800

For those of you who have already read the comments on the Beautiful Bill post, Sixtwosue left a great story about the filming, told to her by a fellow local who worked on the film:

'Our man is playing a fisherman in "MP," and as he likes to become the role, he told the guy I met who worked on the set that he'd like to spend the night on a real fishing boat. My guy set him up with a boat that was in the harbor. Our VDO, described by my guy as "still Kubrick crazy," went on board the boat and spent about 20 minutes there before he shouted back to my guy, "Get me off this *#!@&@ thing!" He was retrieved and brought back to shore; my guy described him as "green about the gills."

I think I saw a picture of VDO near or on a boat recently and it made me wonder if his seasickness has gotten any better.'

Bless!

Accents

My dear US visitors, please tell me - can you tell when a person playing an American in a TV show isn't?

Even with the best doers of accents there is usually a trace when Americans try to do British accents. Even Vincent! The best I ever heard was Richard Chamberlain. Even then, he didn't flatten some of his vowels enough. The worst has to be Dick Van Dyke's cockney. I don't include Mel Gibson, because he grew up in Australia and seems to have accents pretty well sewn up.

But tell me how Hugh Laurie does as House. His American accent sounds excellent to me, but I'm not American.

I was utterly amazed recently when Channel 5 ran a short interview with Simon Baker, and it turns out he's Australian. I had no idea. How does he do for you?

I've just begun watching The Mentalist, and quite enjoy it, but I cannot agree with those who consider Mr Baker to be eye candy. He's a pretty anaemic-looking short-arsed weed compared to the lovely Mr D'Onofrio.

Other than that, I have nothing against the man and wish him every success!

If only this were "it"

Jenz at Team 13 wondered if we had any theories on how they would get our detectives back in the squad. I'd had a few thoughts in a quiet moment last week and had begun work on a new story. I didn't get far, but it's over at:

Coo - Gar!

Type-casting - he has sex again. The man is insatiable (I hope).

I wonder if the name Gar comes from the only sound a woman is able to make when having sex wiht him?

He also has some great equipment...

Beautiful Bill

We know there's more than one JoJo who loves him for his dick - but not only for his dick. Like the rest of us, who also appreciate all his other qualities.
