First Henry, Now Harry

Just a week after Henry Allingham died, the Last Fighting Tommy, Harry Patch, has died, aged 111.

Harry didn't speak of his experiences till he was 100 years old, and since then, this amazing character has become a modest but compelling celebrity. I couldn't stop crying when the news was announced.

There is surprisingly little on YouTube, but this short clip includes his opinion on war - one he is not alone in holding.

I cried too..no reason needed, just the loss of another great man.

Makes me even more determined that my children will always remember...

A true loss ... to the world.

It's very sad that we've lost the last 3 WW1 veterans in the last few months. We'll surely never see their like again.

"Slaughter of human beings". Words of a wise man.

What a horrific battle. It's sad, but on this side of the pond you really don't hear that much about WW1. Thanks for posting this Val.

Wow, such a loss for humanity. War is a slaughter.

Great men from the "Great War".

Unfortunately, in another 20 years we'll be saying the same thing about WW2 (the Greatest Generation).
