Welcome to the world of the Vincent D'Onofrio obsessed - and a bit of real life thrown in.

Now THIS is a shopping centre!

DrowseyMonkey posted about the joys or not of retail therapy. She showed a picture of some piddling little mall in Toronto. But western Canada can offer the biggest shopping centre in the world - West Edmonton Mall - which boasts:

a petting zoo

an ice rink

an indoor theme park complete with roller coaster ride

a pirate ship

and a wave pool with bungee jump

There's also a putting "green", flamingo pool, sea lions (you can have your picture taken with them posing, didn't like that) - and some shops! Lots of them.

For those who think Bluewater is a step too far, better stay at home!

I've heard of this place. I think the only thing missing is a D'Onofrio exhibit. LOL

There was a documentary about the W. Edmonton Mall. Some people practically live there.

What is it about people who live in the north and erecting giant pointless buildings or projects.

Lest you think you guys lost out on the deal when we broke away so many years ago, ever heard of the Corn Palace or Wall Drugs, both in South Dakota? They're on the way to Mt. Rushmore in the Blackhills, and the spectacular Badlands which lie before them. Just insane! Why walk around inside a building when the most beautiful scenery in the world is there... even Da Vinci couldn't improve on God's handiwork, so I hardly think a bunch of frostbitten farmers and ranchers stand much of a chance.

Then there's the "Mall of America"- the 2nd largest- in Minneapolis (otherwise known as "The whitest city on the planet" - Prince not withstanding.) I've been there several times, since I did my time in purgatory taking church youth groups there. Not only is it too big for there to be any reason, its architecturally pedantic at best. Its as if someone had taken several aircraft hangers and piled them on top of each other, then installed a lighting system which would make any casino's look pleasant.

I think both places should serve only for immersion therapy (done under supervision of a qualified mental health professional) for people with claustrophobia or social phobias.

Machts gut from the Chicago PaN contributor who's not a VDO fan (nothing against him, just never heard of him before ya'll, and as Snark so playfully pointed out, Marina Sirtis aka Counselor Troi is more my speed... or was until the advent of my wife into my life.
