I just watched an episode of LOLA, and I would swear that the "These are their stories" voice is Leonard Nimoy.

I don't think they credit The Voice at the end, so does anybody know this for sure one way or the other?

110, RIP

My house is 110 years old. It was registered in January 1901, in the final days of Victoria's reign.

Some years ago, my neighbour needed to remove the pots from our joint chimney stack and fit cowls, so that he could have a back boiler (a boiler behind his gas fire). He gave me my two to use as garden ornaments, as was the fashion.

Over the years I have placed plant pots in the tops of them for decoration. This year I put some tomato plants in one. They grew lots of leaves and not much fruit, and the first two tomatoes were nearing ripening thanks to our lovely summer.

Then yesterday's heavy winds came along.

They caused a lot of damage nationwide, though fortunately only one death. Even though our winds were lighter than the north, over 40mph can be devastating.

As my elderly chimney pot discovered, with the wind whipping through those leafy tomato plants and crashing the pot to the ground.

Luckily it missed the chicken run by inches. The shards are incredibly sharp, as my arm can testify. And so 100 years of history are smashed to smithereens.

As for the tomato plants...
...oops!

I don't like the episode Eosphoros, but like the god of the morning star, I'd always welcome its star.

The tail end of Hurricane Katya has hit the UK, especially the north. It's been pretty bad down here, so I can't imagine what it's been like up there.

I was just watching a report on the BBC news, with a reporter who called it Hurricane Cattier. Mmm. OK. Not too bad.

Somehow, though, I think she has completely misunderstood for all her life what you do to secure your premises in the face of a severe storm.

She said people were "battering down the hatches".

Deary, I think that's what they were expecting the storm to do, which is why they were battening them down.

How do these people get jobs as reporters for the organisation that's supposed to represent the best of the English language? How do they even get the Oxbridge degrees that get them those jobs?

We Want But Don't Get

Of course, the censors at Universal couldn't possibly show Want at 5pm any more than they could at 8pm, so as usual it doesn't get shown.
