Beast and The Beauty

Colour in Nature
JoJo posted a picture of some kind of chick that was not as nature intended, and Diane quite rightly said that nature doesn't do anything quite that funky in bird plumage/colouring.
It's true that pastels are not really nature's way in bird plumage, but there are some great colours around even so - including the pastel pink rosa Bourke's parakeet (I used to have one, and they are truly sweet creatures).
Anyway, here's a selection of avian beauty, including the Eclectus, one of the few parrot species that are not only sexually dimorphic (boys and girls look different), but the female is the more colourful of the two. In fact, they are SO different, they used to be housed separately by people who thought they were different species.
They did NOT have successful breeding programmes!

Springtime For Hitler
I'm really getting into this comedy thing using YouTube.
When I first saw The Producers in the early 1970s, I remember the tears rolling down my face as I watched this sequence. I'm sure most of you will have seen the original film, or the stage show, or the film of the stage show (er - why? you can't improve on perfection) but just in case you've never had the pleasure, the story is:
Producer and his accountant plot to cover shortage of funds by putting on a guaranteed flop. They take investment money from dozens of old ladies (at least 50% from each) secure in the knowledge that, as the show will close on its opening night, they will never have a profit to share. They use the worst script, director, composer, cast - including a camp Hitler - and wait for the show to fail.
But it is SO bad, it's good, and looks like being a surefire hit.

My superb literary taste
Obviously my taste in men is faultless. It's good to know my taste in books is just as good.
This Easter Day we have a double treat - dramatisations of books from series by two of my favourite authors.
Firstly, there's The Colour Of Magic by Terry Pratchett, one of his amazingly inventive, funny and clever Discworld novels. Here's David Jason as the wizard Rincewind.
Then there's The Number 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith, with Jill Scott playing Mma Ramotswe, the "traditionally-built" heroine. Set on earth, in Botswana, quaintly, Mma Ramotswe calls her husband-to-be Mr J. L. B Matekoni, and continues to do so even when they are married. Shades of Jane Austen and Georgian England.
Sadly, last year, aged 59, Terry Pratchett was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. He has to learn to use the keyboard every morning so that he can continue writing. He's given £500,000 to research into this Cinderella medical condition that affects so many lives, yet receives only a fraction of the money cancer research receives.
Bastard illness for depriving the world of so many unwritten Discworld novels.

The Two Ronnies
Ronnie Barker (rest his soul) and Ronnie Corbett were another great comedy duo. Someone mentioned the Four Candles sketch, a triumph of misunderstanding, set in a hardware-cum-general store.

I'm sorry - this slideshow is almost unbearable to watch when the neck is not there in the room with you waiting to be licked, sucked and nibbled.
