My car is 10 years old, and I've had it for 9 of those years.
Toyota was in the local shopping centre a couple of weeks ago plugging their new car, and I gave them my details, which they haven't bothered to use. So I went to a few dealerships.
As I have a Nissan, I went to them first, and a salesman promised to hunt around for what I wanted and call me. Then I tried a Citroen dealer, and the young man was charming. He made a similar promise.
Finally I went to a VW dealership, where they found what I wanted just 3 weeks from delivery (though it's the wrong colour, that would have taken 10-14 weeks).
So here's what I'm waiting for:
It's a Volkswagen Up (strange name for a car, tempting to say, "Up yours") but it's got great write-ups and the road tax is just £20 a year instead of £175 because of its fuel efficiency.
The deal is, after 3 years, when the guarantee runs out, I will still owe some money on it. I can then do one of three things:
1. I can surrender it and walk away;
2. I can pay the amount I still owe and keep it or
3. I can trade it in for another new one on the same basis.
This keeps my monthly payments nice and low, and enables me to own a high quality, reliable car of a make I always wanted.
And not just because it has the same initials as me!
Fabulous and Enjoy..
ReplyDeleteI'd love a car like that. Mine is dead and I'm using one of my stepson's in the mean time. Not sure what I'm going to do about a new one. I do like your choice. I do think I'll try for a hybrid. Probably a Prius.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great deal! My mom is leasing her car now too. I did a lease once years ago and kinda neglected to save the money to purchase it at the end. That was a pickle! lol Do they have Smart Cars over there? They are small but also great on fuel.
ReplyDeleteKool Kar. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI'd love an electric car, but they are too expensive, and I can't trail a lead acros the pavement and through the front door!
ReplyDeleteOh, and yes, JoJo, we have smart cars, but again their price is out of all proportion, and if you ever go out of town you need a second car.
ReplyDeleteHave fun - I'd love a hybrid, but they're just ridiculously expensive. When I changed my car in June, I also went for one in the £20 road tax band.
ReplyDeleteThe most important question would be. "What colour car are you getting?"
ReplyDeleteMy car is a Hyandai Getz with a 5 year warranty and free road service.
One of the cheapest on the market but I miss my Mazda 121 which was a smoother ride, less noisy and better turning circle.
Enjoy your new car.
It's dark blue. I wanted silver so it didn't show the dirt, but 3 weeks was better than waiting 10-14.
ReplyDeleteI know Hyundai seems to have very good deals, but I shrink from Korea's animal cruelty.
Congratulations, Val! It's always fun when you get a new car (even when it's not "new" new) Enjoy!
