An Early Crush

I'm not fond of musicals, but I make an exception for West Side Story, because it is an exceptional show. Add to that the stunning George Chakiris, and it was always a movie I was going to return to again and again. When I got my first video player, it was the first video I bought.

This is how I think of him:

For me he was the main reason to watch the movie 633 Squadron. I even watched an episode of the long-running comedy show Last of the Summer Wine because he was in it.

In 1978 I took my class for a Christmas treat to see the play The Passion of Dracula in London's West End. And there was the lovely George playing Dracula. I was thrilled.

Apparently he's now 76 and has not been in anything since 1996. The most recent picture I could find was this one from three years ago:

Poor George hasn't worn well. And why DO these men feel they have to dye their hair so unrealistically when they age? Take note from Vincent, guys, and grow grey gracefully!

  1. He was a cutie that's for sure. As for the grey thing, I refuse to stop dying my hair. lol

Me too JoJo. Just went from blond to deep red! First time ever. I blame it on Vincent bringing out the wild women in me. LOL

Funnily enough, I love musicals, but West Side Story has always left me colder than a cold thing that's VERY cold.....

  7. That's interesting, Val. When I got my first stereo back in the 60s, "West Side Story" was the very first album I bought!
