Night Stalker

After 20 years of burgling, sexually assaulting and raping elderly women, and some men, the so-called Night Stalker has been caught in Brockley, SE London. Though I cannot identify the street in the picture, there are a lot of railway lines and stations in the area , and the fencing and bushes on the right look like they are beside a street-level railway line less than a mile away from my house. The attacker used to cut telephone lines, disable fuseboxes, and use tools from the garden shed to break into his victims' houses.

Delroy Grant is 52, married with children, and a devout Jehovah's Witness. (Probably how he found some of his victims, I can't help thinking. A couple of them knocked at my door today, as they do far too often, and if one had been him, the many elderly people in my street who answered would no doubt have been put on his list.) He attacked up to 150 people in his 20-year reign of terror.

Well done our wonderful police for taking only 17 years in an operation designed to track the attacker. The 3 years you took to work out that this was a serial offender seem positively swift by comparison.

Cynical? Moi? Surely not.

Wow, I had heard about this story and glad to read your post that he has been caught, about 20 years too late unfortunately. It is so upsetting to me how these people prey on others, especially the elderly, it makes me sick. It happens here, people will dress up in uniforms to disguise themselves as legitimate and usually what will happen is the elderly being so trusting will let them into their homes. In my own community some dear lady was bludgeoned to death because she accepted the "help" from someone posing as a lawn care representative. Even though this animal was caught I've no doubt that the nightmare will still continue for those whose loved ones were victimized and those who lived in fear of being victimized. As my feisty Dad used to say, "Hang them from the highest oak tree until their eyes pop out", seems too tame for this bastard.

  4. Serial killers smart. Cops stupid. Sounds like it could have happened right here in Chicago, as well. I think your feisty dad had the right idea, Nantz.

  5. I guess they're too busy stopping teenage boys to do much else...ok, thats a personal complaint, but Matt, who works shifts, gets stopped most nights he's on lates :-(

I do think we've been spolied by tv cop shows though..we expect everything to be wrapped up in a very short time, without considering the fact that procedures don't actually happen as fast as we see on tv

  6. Wow! Our news media here has been focused on the 2 storms that hit us over the last 2 days, so I hadn't heard. I'm really relieved that he's been caught!!! Sure took them long enough though....

  9. It's Brockley Mews, right next to Honor Oak Crematorium. Incidentally many many many years ago before Brockley Mews was built there was an old detached house on the location. It laid derelict for years and as kids we used to say it was haunted or a witches house. One day a woman was crossing the nearby footbridge which crosses the railway and was attacked and dragged into the dereclict house and assualted. Spooky concidence!!
