Look who just went up in my estimation

I'm not a great Roger Moore fan, though I have to say I admire his willingness to send himself up.

Now I admire him even more. He has added his name to a campaign to ban foie gras on the basis of the cruelty of force feeding geese by sticking a tube down their throats into their stomachs and pumping in the fat.

Sir Roger approached Selfridge's, a huge London department store with a large and expensive food hall, to buy all their foie gras for the year last year if they would no longer stock it. Now he has paid for an advertising campaign to draw attention to the barbaric practice, including an ad right opposite Selfridge's. The original advert was not allowed because it showed a goose being stuffed alive, and the public might find this disturbing.

Can't imagine the goose is happy about it, and would prefer it was the people getting stuffed.

  1. I agree 100%. I am not terribly familiar w/ foie gras, but I've heard that it's a very cruel procedure. Is it goose liver or something like that?

Good for Roger Moore for campaigning against it.

  2. Yup, goose liver pate. Even if I weren't a veggie, you wouldn't get me even sniffing the stuff.

  6. I've always liked him becasue he was the James Bond I grew up with, and in a family of boys I got to see his films a lot.

Have to say I admire him for taking such positive action against something he loathes..can't say that about many people these days unfortunately

I had no idea that's what they did, I am appalled and glad you have informed me and others. I do like pate but now the mental image turns me off. Same with veal, I won't touch the stuff.
