Down with David

An old school friend of mine, David, was up from Devon today (Crediton, Jane Austen country in one or other of her novels) and we had a jaunt. First we went to Ightham Mote, about which I have posted before, then on to Down House, the home of Charles Darwin.

There's a very clever new exhibit in the house showing a mock-up of his cabin on The Beagle, with a life-size video of him (well, an actor playing him) sitting at the table fiddling with stuff. It's very realistic.

Down House and part of the garden where Darwin studied wildlife.

We relied on my satnav, which was a big mistake. It took us along every one-track bendy, hilly back road in Kent, when we could so easily have used a map and got there on nice, big, fast roads.

  2. Obviously it doesn't pay to rely on technology :-D

Sounds like you had a pretty interesting day out...better than staying at home doing housework anyway!

Well, at least your satnav didn't put you in the Channel I guess... I prefer good old fashioned maps.

  4. Those gadgets have taken many people I know way out of their way.

Anyhoo - Glad to see you're sticking to your rule of only posting photos of handsome fellas ;)
