Bedfellow

No, not the kind they made a LOCI episode of.

Last night, just as I was about to turn out the bedroom light, I spotted one of these little fellahs on the edge of my mattress, near the pillow.

Of course, I didn't have my camera to hand, which is a shame, 'cos I got him in my bug catcher and was able to have a really good look at him. He was about an inch long, and his feelers were so incrdibly long and fine I was terrified I would damage him as I tried to release him out of the window. He clung on, and it's possible that by the time I'd shaken him lose he might have sustained some damage, which would break my heart, because, as you can see, these are very pretty creatures.

My bedroom is upstairs, so I have no idea how he got there, unless he hitched a ride on one of the cats. Or on me, of course. Oh, and by the way, he's a common green grasshopper.

  3. Grasshoppers are all right as bugs go. I hate bugs, though. It's a full blown phobia.

You're welcome to have the little green 'fellow' in your bed, just so long as I can have the 6'4" one in mine.

The house and garden here seem to attracting spiders at the moment, of varying size and um....'thickness'. Having crushed one to death once in the crotch of my pants, having not realised it was ther - lesson no.1: check all clothing that has been laying on the bathroom floor while you take a shower - I no longer freak out over them, but tend to pop them outside...where no doubt they freeze to death or are eaten ;0)

  6. They are very pretty, but also VERY destructive to any plants you have. If you were farming he'd be your enemy

Such a cute little bug! The only insects I hate are spiders, bees, hornets, and wasps.

I also love praying mantises. Mantisees? Mantees? Oh well.

They are quite beautiful. They remind me of fairies. He may have flown up to your bedroom window, Val.

My daughter has a phobia for any grasshopper. Pity, they can be very nice to look at. And yes, very delicate. Unlike some of our African monstrosities!!!
