The Beatles were so far out there.
Welcome to the world of the Vincent D'Onofrio obsessed - and a bit of real life thrown in.

For Diane
I watched this before posting it, and I'm still crying with laughter. It's 10 minutes long, but worth watching from start to finish. I have NO idea how they got someone as eminent as Andre Previn to take part, but I suppose the kudos of being asked on to the Morecambe and Wise Show was too great to refuse.
Incidentally, I once saw Eric Morecambe driving his Rolls Royce in Lancaster (a few miles from the town from which he took his stage name). I was waiting at the bus stop/hitching point at which we would try to thumb a lift from town to the University before the bus came and we had to fork out the fare. He didn't stop. But in all fairness, he was going a different way...

Jazzylin's Challenge
Jazzylin, purveyor of wonderful VDO videos, has issued a challenge to Vixens to produce their best efforts. Theoretically, this is my submission - except that - well, see if you can spot the deliberate(!) mistake at the end! (I didn't save it on Movie Maker, so I can't even go back to change and repost it.)

The Goons
The start of modern off-the-wall comedy, the acknowledged basis for just about every comic act that followed, the Goons were broadcast on BBC radio in the 1950s. Peter Sellers (later world-famous for films like Being There and Dr Strangelove), Harry Secombe (Mr Bumble in the film of the musical Oliver!) and Spike Milligan, the mad genius behind the scripts, prodiced some of the funniest comedy characters and sketches of all time.
From my youngest days I have loved The Ying Tong Song, and offer it for your pleasure.
I challenge anyone to better this sketch between Eccles and Bluebottle (Milligan and Sellers) for sheer wacky brilliance.

Unexpected Treat
Since I now believe there is nothing that is not available on YouTube, I went looking for something of Britain's greatest ever comedy duo - and found the Beatles' guest spot on their show.
It reminded me how good a live group The Beatles were, and how Morecambe and Wise were able to get absolutely ANYBODY on to their show and humiliate them with their full co-operation.
People like Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Glenda Jackson and Andre Previn were happy to get the M&W treatment. They even had the entire British male TV newsreader team dancing to and singing "There Is Nothing Like A Dame" in sailor suits. And the foremost female newsreader did a song-and-dance routine with them, revealing the most gorgeous, long shapely legs that were usually hidden behind a news desk. Boy, could she do high kicks!

Inspired by Eliza
In a snatched moment this morning, I managed to nip over to Eliza's blog, where she'd posted a delicious selection from Rocketman.
I would like to add my much-loved slideshow of the Pocket Rocket from that episode.
My, his hair was gorgeous in Season 6. Much like the rest of him.

Two Soups
Over on Pabulum Ad Nauseam, I posted some Victoria Wood I found on YouTube (for my US friends, she is a British comedian who also writes comedy sketches and programmes, and is a talented musician). I bemoaned the fact that the only copy of the Two Soups sketch on YouTube was filmed from the TV screen and was unwatchable.
It features Julie Walters, well known as a film actress, from the original Educating Rita to the Harry Potter films. She is a very attractive woman, but does a great line in hunched up old ladies.
I discovered that over the weekend UKTV Gold was showing some Victoria Wood, and watched it for ages hoping they would show the sketch. Then up it popped. By the magic of Sky+, even though I started recording just after the sketch began, I ended up with most of the preceding half-hour of the show. I thought I'd post the sketch here as the audience is a bit bigger, and I think you all deserve to enjoy it.
So here it is in all its glory. Wear a pantie liner, 'cos there's a good chance you'll pee yourself.
